For over three decades Israel and Egypt have been at peace.  The goal would be to preserve the peace between these countries.

Israel’s concern that this uprising in Egypt could be commandeered by the Muslim Brotherhood and its allies seems to be well founded.  Presumably this type of move would take Egypt away from its alignment with the West and possibly cancel peace agreements with Israel.
